The Fitzwilliam Museum Society is a student society
at the university of cambridge, uk. it's purpose is to create a
forum for intellectual and educational exchange between the city's
main gallery, the fitzwilliam museum, and the university. the society's
activities range from co-hosting exhibitions and events to providing
support for educational services of the museum.
design process
approach
a gallery is a place for the unseen. literally,
it is a room for interpretation. the logo tries to capture a number
of elements in one, in particular:
- the unseen and the invisible
- this is a place where interpretation is
key
- a place where old convention and modernism
meet
at the same time, the focus of the design was not
only the museum itself, but foremost the society. here it is that
people get together, discuss and collaborate with the museum as
a formal and conservative institution.
solution
the design posed a challenge in a number of ways
- bringing together the conservative and respectable style of the
museum with the collaborative efforts of the society.
